Ranch dressing is officially everywhere! It’s not only the #1 salad dressing in the US, it’s also a seasoning for popcorn, a dip for pizza, a drizzle for sandwiches and a sauce for chicken.
So where did it come from? Who started this ranch riot anyway? Probably not who you would expect. Ranch dressing was invented by Steve Henson, an Alaskan plumber. For reals!
Steve tinkered with his recipe for years, left Alaska for California and opened a place called Hidden Valley® The Original Ranch®. The patrons went crazy for their buttermilk dressing, and a star was born!
The original recipe was buttermilk, mayo, garlic, onion and a special blend of herbs. The Hensons sold their recipe in 1972, but the ranch craze started a decade later when shelf-stable bottles were introduced, and things really exploded when Cool Ranch Doritos® hit the scene in 1986.
Today, bottled dressings on store shelves are laden with artificial flavors, preservatives, and MSG. How can you make ranch dressing and know it’s full of only the good stuff? Tastefully Simple to the rescue. Check out our Classic Ranch Mix.
Ours will take you back to the days of clean eating – no MSG, artificial flavors or preservatives here! You add fresh milk and mayo and we bring the expertly blended seasonings and spices.
