Honey Bourbon Glazed Ribs

Father. Dad. Pops. Papi. There are many ways to refer to this significant role model in your life. I’ve always called mine Pa. A little bit about my Pa: he’s a veteran and a proud farmer as well as an excellent butcher and cook. He likes to experiment with different techniques for seasoning meat, making sausage, smoking, grilling – you name it. My cooking style is just like my Pa’s. I like to experiment with ingredients and mash up different cooking methods.

Several years ago I had a favorite Tastefully Simple seasoning from the Spring-Summer catalog that I loved to use as a rub for ribs and brisket. Sadly, my enthusiasm for this product wasn’t enough for it to make a return. Then again, if everything stayed the same we wouldn’t have a chance to try new things, right? I had to experiment with something new. After all, it’s grilling season and Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19. So it’s the perfect time of year for grilling ribs.

I made the rub for the ribs using the versatile Garlic Pepper Seasoning, brown sugar and smoked paprika. I like to use St. Louis Style pork spare ribs, which are larger than baby back ribs. They’re full of flavor and are often a less expensive cut. The method used in this recipe is a mash-up of slow-cooking the ribs in the oven first, then finishing the ribs on the grill. The result is tender, mouthwatering ribs. After the ribs are browned on the grill, they’re finished by brushing with Honey Bourbon Citrus Glaze. This sauce is a fusion of honey, bourbon and citrus juices and is the perfect complement to pork.

Consider serving these ribs with any of our sauces. Your family can customize their portion by brushing with Bayou Bourbon™ GlazeSmoky Bacon BBQ SauceHoney Teriyaki Sauce or Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce right after grilling.

Whether you’re cooking for or right alongside your Pa on Father’s Day, I hope you experiment with Tastefully Simple products and have a good time filled with laughter and love around the table with family and friends!

Happy Father’s Day!

Honey Bourbon Glazed Ribs

Ingredients

  • 2 racks St. Louis Style pork spare ribs (about 6 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ cup Honey Bourbon Citrus Glaze

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil; place ribs in pan. In small bowl, combine Garlic Pepper Seasoning, brown sugar and paprika; sprinkle over both sides of ribs.
  2. Bake, uncovered, 1½-2 hours or until tender.
  3. Prepare grill to medium heat. Place ribs on the grill, turning once until lightly browned. Brush ribs with Honey Bourbon Citrus Glaze before serving.

Tips and Hints

  • Lining the pan with aluminum foil is great for easy clean up.
  • Baby back ribs can be used in place of St. Louis Style.
  • Basting the ribs with the sauce after they’re grilled helps keep them from sticking on the grill.
  • Serve the ribs with Dill Pickle Potato Salad and Grilled Corn with Green Tea Butter
