Ah, pizza. There are so many reasons to love it.
But if your family is anything like mine, you all have your own personal favorites when it comes to pizza toppings. Some love sausage. Some hate it. Some love pineapple, while others passionately believe that fruit NEVER belongs on pizza. (Seriously, I think the pineapple-on-pizza debate is as controversial as politics in some households.) And for many parents with picky kiddos, well – fresh veggies and adventurous toppings can be a pretty tough sell sometimes.
So what’s the answer? Behold: build-your-own-pizza night!
Easy as 1-2-3: Personal Pizzas
Here’s how to create a little pizzeria in your own kitchen and have dinner on the table in 20 minutes or less:
Step 1: Instant Sauce
Did you know that you can make your own pizza sauce in seconds anytime? Simply mix 1½ tablespoons Mama Mia™ Marinara Sauce Mix with 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce. That’s it!
Step 2: Quick Crust
Preheat your oven to 400°F. Grab 2 (8.8 ounce) packages original Naan flatbread, and place the naans onto two large baking sheets. Spread your prepared sauce onto the flatbreads.
Tip: You can typically find naan in your local grocer’s deli or bread aisle. It’s fluffy and light, making it a perfectly pillowy pizza crust that’s ready in minutes.
Step 3: Toppings
This is the fun part! Chicken. Bacon. Sweet bell peppers. Mushrooms. Seriously, the sky’s the limit. (Well, depending how you feel about that whole pineapple controversy.)
Set out a variety of cured meats, fresh veggies and shredded mozzarella so everyone can build their own pizza. Once the pizzas are assembled, bake ‘em 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted or lightly browned.
Bonus Tips: Fun Combos
Oh, and if you need a little extra dinner inspiration, here are a couple of the combinations that we made this weekend at our house!
T-REX PIZZA: Just for carnivores!
Toppings: browned ground beef, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, crumbled bacon and mozzarella
BACON CHEESEBURGER PIZZA
Toppings: browned ground beef, crumbled bacon, chopped pickles and mozzarella
VERY GOU-DA CHICKEN PIZZA
For this last variation, I wanted a white sauce instead of a red one. Simply spread 2-3 tablespoons Monterey Jack Queso onto a flatbread for a creamy, cheesy sauce like we did … it’s delicious!
Toppings: chopped rotisserie chicken, crumbled bacon, roasted red bell peppers, spinach and shredded smoked Gouda cheese
So what’s YOUR perfect personalized pizza? Tell us your favorite combinations. And remember, if you need more inspiration – you’ll find over 100 pizza recipes on Tastefully Simple’s website, too.
